The world needs who you were made to be.

What happens when the problems seem insurmountable, the systems are broken and the exhaustion is felt in your bones but it’s your job to show up? When you’re trying to lead but politics push back at every turn? When you and many others are asking, “What can we do? How do we fix this? Why is this happening? Does my work matter? Do I matter? What is my purpose?”

As a curiosity cultivator, I encourage and applaud questions…and better systems may be in our future. However, the struggle is real. With a view on those questions, the mission of Human Together, invites a different conversation about who we want to be in the “in between” of now and not yet. Despite all the obstacles how can we make a real difference today?

My career in law enforcement provided a wealth of diverse experiences giving me a unique and fluent voice to the intersections of the public service and helping professions, policing, and the beauty and complexity of what it means to be human. As a leader, while facing seemingly insurmountable challenges around poverty, housing and homelessness, substance use, mental health, burnout, compassion fatigue, post traumatic stress, bureaucracy and politics I started noticing “what” we should do is often mistaken for figuring out “who” we want to be.

I invite you to a different kind of conversation; to consider and explore the choices we each have to choose curiosity over certainty, to welcome proximity, to build relationships without agenda and trade transaction for transformation—creating connection, community, resiliency and safety— and moving us to lasting change.

I don’t have it all figured out, but I’d love to share what I’ve learned so far. Your invitation awaits, let’s be human together.

What people are saying about Amy…

  • “Amy is clearly passionate about her desire to evolve systems that are struggling and the communities they are intending to serve. There is a clarity and a confidence in her style that is very engaging, supportive, and transparent. My experience with Amy is that she wants to focus on evidence-based practices that are shown to improve outcomes. She is thoroughly enjoyable to partner with on projects.”

    — Casey Jackson, Executive Director IFIOC

  • “Want longer and more time with her. She is amazing!”

    — conference attendee

  • “When she speaks, people listen. And they are rewarded with ideas, innovations, and inspiration. Amy has the rare quality of being able to toe the line while also looking beyond it—at what comes next, what can be done differently, what can be improved.”

    — Melissa McKee, Policy Analyst, Behavioral Health Division, Council of State Governments Justice Center

  • “Presentation was great - she is a speaker who talked and shared experiences, not just simply gave info and read slides.”

    — conference attendee

  • "Amy's honest, powerful, and heartfelt presentation style, loaded with facts, stories and eloquent framing, was just the kind of kickoff to constructive communication our event needed, especially as there were such different perspectives, along with some degree of trepidation amongst our guests about engaging with one another. She is a force whether on zoom or in person and her work with your group will elevate and amplify what is possible."

    — Sally Fouché, community organizer

  • “Loved the talk. It was personally SO helpful.”

    — conference attendee

  • “Amy sets the bar high - on compassion, expertise, and connection. She offers her practical direction, authentic encouragement, and impeccable integrity to every project she engages in. In her former career as an LEO, she has vast experience collaborating in challenging environments with grace and clarity. She presents and leads with enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge and is a joy to be human with!”

    — Oriana with Human Resolve

  • "It stands out when someone cares about the work they do, the people they serve and the way in which they do their work. Amy is someone who has stood out to me. During her time at the police department, I was impressed with her kindness towards vulnerable people in the community. She took the time to have conversations with people experiencing complex behavioral health challenges and make sure that they felt heard. She provided a sense of non-judgmental collaboration that put people at ease as she worked with them to find shared solutions that worked well for all parties."

    — Gabriel Ash, Director of Housing and Homeless Services CCS-Southwest Washington

  • "In my experience, the most impactful leaders are those able to build on robust years of experience while keeping a self-reflective mindset that allows them to identify opportunities for growth, not only in themselves but in the systems they serve. Amy is such a leader! Her empathy, critical lens, and missional commitment to uphold human dignity make her a critical voice as communities across the nation reimagine the law enforcement landscape."

    — Parfait Bassalé, Reconciler & Belonging strategist

  • “Amy was very passionate, articulate and has credibility”

    — Director of Community Outpatient Program

  • "Amy is an exceptional speaker who effortlessly blends her extraordinary heart, practical wisdom, and real-life experiences into a message that deeply resonates with her audience. Her passion for forging meaningful human connection is unrivaled. Every interaction with Amy is an opportunity to enrich that connection and leaves a lasting impact."

    — Heather Kelley, community advocate

  • I attended Amy’s presentation in November 2023. I was fascinated and inspired by what she had to say. I live in the same community as Amy and saw the challenges she faced in her work as an officer. I am amazed by her fearless perspective. She challenged the audience to not only think differently, but to live differently. She is an incredible messenger of hope. I only regret that I didn’t bring something with which to take notes.
